Looking at our lives from the perspective of physics.

Every topic is described twice: once the way physics observes it, and once the way it shows up in a life.

Resonance

In physics

Resonance occurs when an external frequency matches the natural frequency of a system.

It creates nothing new. It reveals and amplifies what is already present.

Resonance has no quality. It describes the responding system, not the source that set it in motion.

In life

When a person, idea, or experience affects us deeply, it meets something within us that was already able to respond.

Resonance may feel inspiring or painful. A trigger is resonance too.

It reveals and amplifies what is already present within us and therefore tells us more about our own response than about its source.

Tension

In physics

Tension is a state between two resting positions.

The old position no longer holds, while the new one has not yet been reached.

A stretched spring pulls - and the further it is stretched, the stronger the pull becomes.

Tension is movement that has not yet happened.

In life

Tension arises when the old no longer fits, while the new has not yet taken shape.

We cannot fully return, but we do not yet know where we are going.

What feels heavy or restless may be change that has already begun but has not yet found its direction.

Pressure

In physics

Pressure is created by countless small impacts of particles against the walls that contain them.

It rises when more is added - or when the same amount is held within a shrinking space.

A gauge shows that pressure is rising. It does not reveal why.

In life

Pressure can rise because more has been added - or because one concern has expanded and leaves less room for everything else.

The feeling of pressure cannot tell us which of these has happened.

It shows that something has become too compressed, but not why.
